Restore CFS Culminates First Batch of PhotoTherapy
PhotoTherapy is an art-based intervention that assists youth in processing trauma. It is a two-month program where trauma survivors must undergo a weekly art-based group therapy that uses photography to help them process adverse experiences. It is a holistic avenue to self-discovery which focuses on portraying feelings and thoughts in symbolic representations and visuals. Restore Children and Family Services (CFS) provided PhotoTherapy sessions to a cohort of nine participants from SOS Children’s Village in Cebu City.
The program consisted of eighth sessions that highlighted trauma narrative and storytelling. It was facilitated by mental health practitioners including psychologists, behavior specialists, and volunteers. The first Restore CFS cohort successfully completed the PhotoTherapy sessions and received their certificate during their graduation held at Restore CFS on February 19, 2022.
The graduation was attended by distinguished guests namely SOS Director Mario Victor Baang; Board Member Dr. Cherry Macalino; Atty. Mark Del Mundo and Dr. Mae Sampani-del Mundo who delivered the opening remarks.
The event showcased the creative voices of the participants. Entries were judged by a jury of experts and shortlisted based on the theme: “What Matters Most”. The selection of winners was based on adherence to the theme, creativity, technique and overall impact. In addition to monetary prize, the winners were also awarded tokens. Restore CFS will resume the program on April 30,2022. It will be more diverse and will serve as enhancement to clients who are undergoing intensive intervention.
