Christmas-The Happiest Time of the Year
“Christmas is the happiest time for me as I get to receive a lot of gifts”, easily expressed by a young client during a group therapy session. Being an orphan, he placed his hope that supporters would be moved to pour generosity and kindness to children like him who were in shelters. The Restore team embarked on a fundraising campaign for the 2020 Christmas gift-giving program, uncertain of the outcome since the COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected the economy and livelihood of many. Nonetheless, the team pressed on despite the odds and held on to the truth that our Sovereign God can provide abundantly, exceeding all that we dare to ask or fathom.
Faithful to His promises, God moved the hearts of His people. People from the local faith community gave gifts and financial support even before they became aware of Restore’s fundraising drive. In spite of the barriers imposed by the quarantine to reach out to potential donors, the team was able to garner support and raised beyond what was earmarked for the entire cost of the Christmas program. The giving partners themselves felt blessed by the opportunity to serve God by way of ministering to the needs of vulnerable people.
Christmas celebrations looked different for most of us due to the restrictions of the pandemic. Even with the limitations due to the COVID-19 safety protocols, Restore and its partners brought joy and cheer to the young survivors of trauma and their families. They were showered with gifts, treats, and even special food packs for their Christmas meal. This is indeed a testament that nothing is impossible with God even in the face of uncertainty. He is Jehovah Jireh, our provider, who cares deeply about all our needs from the smallest to the greatest, which is salvation and the gift of eternity with Him. To God be the glory!
